"Save the Children is the world's leading independent organization for children. Our vision is a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation. Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives."
Save the Children is the leading independent organization that helps create a lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world. This organization is a member of the International Save the Children Alliance. There are approximately 27 national Save the Children organizations that work in over 100 countries. Save the Children responds to any emergency to help protect the children and their families.Save the Children USA is modeled on Save the Children, an organization established in England by Eglantyne Jebb to provide food for starving children in Vienna after World War I. Save the Children USA was later established in 1932 to help children and their families from the Great Depression. The organization give 90% of the donation to help the children achieve a better lifestyle. 6% of the money is used for fundraisers, hoping to bring in more donations. The last 4% is then used to manage the general well-being of the organization. Save the Children works worldwide in many different countries and people are welcome to contribute their time and generosity. People could even sponsor a child and Save the Children would track the child's progress and keep the sponsors updated. Save the Children help by trying to "resolve the ongoing struggles children face every day — poverty, hunger, illiteracy and disease — and replaces them with hope for the future." Save the Children has expanded and used the help of the media to make it more known to the people, like the use of social networks, "Creating change for children...One friend at at time." Social networks like twitter and many more are used by Save the Children to allow the followers to know what is going on when the people are working with the children and YouTube for example, is a way that people are able to see what actions are taken to help those children.

World Challenge 2011
This project is aiming to impact on the environment, local communities, third world countries, technology and projects that have innovation within them. Different projects may connect man and animals, food shortage, pollution and other problems in the world. The projects are aiming for new ways of thinking and new ways to tackle the global problems. The 2011 top 3 finalists are Changing Spots, Tech Crunch and Trash to Gas.
Changing Spots
Mongolia
The snow leopard was once the number one enemy of the shepherds. The Snow Leopard Enterprises is a new project that would help improve living standard for the poor in Mongolia. This projects allows the women to have jobs and help support their families. The equipment is provided for the women to make hand-made felt and other crafts that they are able to sell for a profit. This project has been running in Mongolia since 1997 and it is preventing the poaching of the endangered snow leopard from many areas. I don't really understand this project. If the women are taking the fur of the snow leopards to make wool and other crafts, wouldn't it kill they have to kill the snow leopard first? Or do they shave the snow leopard when they need the supply? Even if they shave the snow leopards this doesn't stop them from feeding on the cattle. I think this project is a little vague and it needs a bit more clarification but overall it is trying to promote a positive message.
Tech Crunch
Chile
Electronic wastes are hazardous to the environment and the people. Recycla is recycling those hazardous materials by breaking down the equipment and separating the harsh chemicals and metals. They also rehabilitate ex-prisoners by allowing them to work in the warehouses. I think that this project has potential. Currently the U.S. is going through what the people call a "recession" and the unemployment rates are incredibly high. I think that Recycla is promoting more job opportunities in Chile and it is giving people who once made a mistake to redeem themselves. This is a good project because it is helping the people but it is also helping the environment. More and more landfills are overflowing because of the excess wastes that man makes and uses. With this project, it is promoting recycling that would eventually make people see that by recycling, they make the world last a little longer and much cleaner for themselves, their children and the future generations that are to come.
Trash to Gas
India
Rubbish or trash can be found strewn all over the streets of India, making tourism quite unpleasant but with this project, starting in Mamallapuram in South India, the people started taking action to change the hazardous way of living. The cluttered streets can cause injuries and spread diseases. There is a group of people who goes around collecting the organic wastes that is turned into electricity.
